"Bitcoin is an implementation of Wei Dai's b-money proposal" This short Bitcointalk post isn't ever used to quote Satoshi; however, it reveals a lot about Satoshi the person. Someone we know little of, despite how much he himself documented. Wei Dai is one of Satoshi's personal inspirations. The Bitcoin blockchain is coded to conform with Wei Dai's crypto-anarchy values. Wei Dai is so influential that Satoshi felt compelled to email Wei and send him a copy of the Bitcoin whitepaper draft months before its release. Satoshi emailed Wei when the final version of the whitepaper released. Satoshi's respect for Wei is evident in the message. Wei Dai's name appears on page 9 of the BTC White paper. Wei's a guy who shuns the spotlight; however, he's been an influential figure in crypto since the crypto wars of the 1990's. Wei's digital contracts idea would later inspire Vitalik's smart contracts in Ethereum. Wei's B-Money paper played a major role in motivating Satoshi to effectively "finish" Wei's work and launch Bitcoin. Read the B-money paper and you can see the outline concepts of:
It's not crazy to look at it as a sort of first draft of the Bitcoin whitepaper. Satoshi pays honor to him in the finished whitepaper but also in the Bitcointalk forum with a straight-forward statement, "Bitcoin is an implementation of Wei Dai's B-Money Proposal." A class-act [link] [comments] |
